The valves on a central heating system can sometimes be referred to as controlling valves for different rooms in the home, in other words zone control valves. There are two types of electrically operated valves that feature in nearly all central heating systems. The first valve is called a two-port valve that operates in an ‘on’ and ‘off’ function. The number two valve that is featured is called a three port valve or (Diverter Valve) who’s action is to divert the flow of water that travels through the cylinder for hot water when it is required to do so. These valves are very important and always have a direction of flow marked on their body. A Kilburn Plumber knows these valves.

The valves are really quite a simple part of the system, being very tough and able to stand many years of use, crying hot and cold water. Sometimes they can start to show their age, with things like seals failing that will cause a leak problem and electrical component failure too like wiring to automatic valves. They are not expensive to buy but it always a good idea before purchasing a replacement valve to check and test the old one first just to make sure that the problem is not in the wiring or timer etc. this can be done by a novice as long as they are confident, otherwise it is a good idea to leave to a professional. Kilburn Plumbers are a professional company. If an emergency it is sometimes possible to disconnect the wiring for a valve on its own. This will let the operation of the system continue. The valve can be opened either using the correct sized spanner or a screwdriver. This operation will take control from the zone covered.
